We spend on the things that hold up. We skip the ones that just look like they will. That's the whole idea — not "buy less," not "buy the cheapest thing," just don't buy the version that fails you in a month when a slightly different version wouldn't have.

How something gets on the list

Every product here goes through the same three questions: does it actually work, is the claim behind it actually true, and would we buy it again at full price once the free-sample feeling wears off. If something fails any of those, it doesn't get written up — no matter how good the commission would be. The "returns pile" further down the hub exists specifically so you can see what we tried and rejected, not just what made the cut.

Why it's not just "nontoxic" anymore

This site started narrower — nontoxic home and body products specifically. It grew into everyday stuff more broadly: fitness dupes, pet care, kids' books, kitchen basics, the supplements that actually became a habit instead of sitting in a drawer. The bar didn't get lower when the scope got wider. It's still "does this hold up," just applied to more of what you actually buy.

What "vetted" actually means here

It means we, or someone we trust, has actually used the thing — not read five other roundups and reworded them. When we can't confirm a detail firsthand (an exact price, a specific ingredient claim), we say so directly in the tradeoff line instead of presenting a guess as fact. The numbers on the hub — items vetted, made the list, returned or retired — are an honest attempt at a running scoreboard, not a marketing flourish.
